LifeChurch Manurewa has been on an exciting journey since 2007 that has totally revolutionized the church and the way they reach their community of Manurewa.

Out of a strong sense of calling to move to Manurewa and passion to do something in the community Pastor Lui & Ane Ponifasio together with their congregation took a leap of faith ÿ ve years ago. They sold their Papatoetoe church building and relocated the church in Manurewa with a new vision, new leadership team, new strategy and a new name. The Samoan Open Brethren Assembly in Papatoetoe became LifeChurch Manurewa.

Pastor Ponifasio commented "After hearing and watching so so much negative news on TV about Manurewa, I said to myself, what if we the church can be part of the solution. We didn't want to be just another church in Manurewa, we wanted to bring something to the community. We wanted to bring Life. I started surveying the community and found so many churches, in fact over 100 Christian churches. I started to think about what the Scriptures say about "being salt and light" and yet Manurewa is one of the darkest, fastest deteriorating communities in our country. I came to the conclusion that the answer is the Church. I started talking to the pastors and now we have a very strong ministers' network and we are constantly looking at issues in our community".LifeChurch started reaching the community by prayer-walking every street of Manurewa. Then they started picking up rubbish on the streets, painting out graÿ tti, distributing free bread and food parcels, free clothing, pampering for the single mums and ladies, etc... Out of that Servolution was born.

LifeChurch started networking with other local churches in Manurewa and South Auckland in serving the community together. What started as a desire to bring change into the community of Manurewa ÿ ve years ago has now spread throughout Auckland.

The simple message of Servolution is 'Sharing the love of God through simple acts of kindness'.

In March 2012, close to 900 volunteers from 35 participating churches wore the 'SERVE TEAM' red t-shirts as they served their local communities over three days and ended with a celebration concert on Sunday night.

Plans are now underway for Servolution in Wellington, Christchurch, Hamilton, Palmerston North and Rotorua.

Mission opportunities haven't stopped at New Zealand's borders either. Last year the ÿ rst mission team went to Indonesia to work and minister to Orphanages in Singaraja and Denpasar. This year another team will head o˜ to Atamabua and Singaraja again, Tarakan Island as well as Bangladesh and Calcutta India. Next year another team will be in Brazil.

We at LifeChurch are looking for mission-focused people from around New Zealand to move to Manurewa to work with us in reaching our community. We have so many opportunities and we have been praying for workers for the harvest. So far, one has come from Hawkes Bay... could you be another worker that we are seeking?
