11-585x388Recently Beverly Sundgren, a missionary to Papua New Guinea for 41 years, passed into the presence of the Lord she loved and served. As we re ected on her journey, we noted her passion for these people to read the word of God in their own language. Through her teaching and training materials she has left a legacy where that has happened. Papua New Guinea was, and in some ways still is, the 'ends of the earth' and the Christians there want to spread the good news to the many Muslims who are now over the border in West Papua. Will we partner with the church in PNG to help them achieve this?

In Matthew 28:19-20 we read the Great Commission. In it Jesus charges us, the Body of Christ, to go into all the World and do two things; 1. Share the gospel and lead others to Him 2. Disciple them and help them grow and mature in their faith. Yet, 2000 years later, half the world's population still has yet to hear the name of Jesus.

Acts 13:47 says: For this is what the Lord has commanded us: I have made you a light for the Gentiles to bring salvation to the ends of the earth.

God's heart is hungry for those at the ends of the earth. Deuteronomy 30:4 says, "Even if your exiles are at the ends of the earth, He will gather you and bring you back from there." Even David sang in the Psalms of God's reign over all people, even to the ends of the earth. "May he rule from sea to sea and from the Euphrates to the ends of the earth." Psalm 72:8.

Where is the "ends of the earth" anyway? What rst comes to my mind is a small village in the darkest jungle of the Amazon or a remote tribe in Indonesia. The "ends of the earth" is much closer than you might think. The "ends of the earth" is anywhere, and more importantly anyone who has not been told the truth about Jesus. This means that co-worker who always keeps to themselves, or your neighbour and family. Yet there are millions of people who have no access to a Bible or to the gospel as we have in New Zealand. Who will embrace them?

God promised us "the ends of the earth" as an inheritance! All we have to do is ask. Psalm 2:8 tells us: Ask of Me, and I will make the nations Your inheritance and the ends of the earth Your possession.

Father, give us the nations - even to the ends of the earth. Birth in the hearts of your people a burning hunger for those that have not heard the truth about your son Jesus. Empower us with your Holy Spirit to go into all the world with boldness. May you give us creative and innovative ideas to reach the unreachable. Activate your people. Call the labourers to the vineyard for the harvest is ready.

GC3 is having three regional mission summits (instead of one in Hamilton) in 2014. The theme is "Embracing the Ends of the Earth." The rst is in Christchurch at Bryndwr Chapel on the 15th March, the second is at Crossroads in Palmerston North on the 22nd March and the third is at Northgate Community Church on the 29th March. These will start at 9:00 am and run till 5:30 pm with lunch provided. Our speakers are Patrick Sookhdeo (22nd and 29th), Chin Aik (from Malaysia) and Mark Grace (Feilding Bible Chapel). Plan to bring a group along to the one nearest you and be challenged and encouraged to renew a commitment and form a strategy to embrace "the ends of the earth". Registration forms will be available soon.

Lord Jesus, may your Kingdom continue to expand until every eye has seen your glory and every ear has heard your truth and every mouth has confessed that you are Lord.
