Picture1During our May outreach, we left chalk and blackboards with select groups in 3 villages. This was the  first time many people had access to writing materials. This time when we flew into the village of  Bumbane we asked them to show us what they could do. They proceeded to write their full names  without assistance! Pae Efesio  – an older man whose education went to grade 5, had gathered   everyone together over many nights and patiently taught them. Each family would then take their  blackboard home and practice so hard they ran out of chalk and started using charcoal. The education  team were very excited because we have been promoting the importance of learning together in  families, sharing what you know and not relying on an  occasional helicopter visit. Small steps, but  encouraging.
